An extensive two-month journey circling the Australian Coast has been cancelled following the death of an elderly woman who was abandoned by the ship on a distant tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been walking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but broke off from the excursion for a break. The vessel sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the crew realised the woman was not present.

An extensive search operation located her remains the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the incident, in coordination with police and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator announced that passengers and personnel on the vessel were told that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior technical problems".

Via official communication, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to arrange the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also released an updated announcement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Master" banning any further travelers from entering the vessel.

The official said that they would attend the ship in Cairns upon its arrival.

Timeline of Events

The liner initially left Cairns on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the point of the 80-year-old's passing. Lizard Island was the opening port on the journey.

Guests on the vessel - who usually pay large sums of currency to participate in the expedition - were taken there for a shore visit with the choice of walking or underwater exploration.

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "surprised and saddened that the liner left Lizard Island after an scheduled excursion without my mum".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her mother as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a affiliate of a hiking organization.

The liner caters for up to 120 travelers with 46 personnel, according to official data. It was specially constructed to reach distant locations of the nation's coast and is equipped with "tenders" - compact vessels used to ferry individuals on day excursions.
