Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting extra-inning clash where the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51 million watchers in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball stated this is the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game landed in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series recorded 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total American viewership was over 16 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase over last year and the network’s best playoff performance since 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
